Putin adds that Moscow “supports any steps aimed at restoring full-fledged relations with European countries, whether through the EU as a whole or bilaterally, it makes no difference to us.” However, he notes that “at the very beginning of the conversation [earlier this week],” Finland's Alexander Stubb and Norway's Jonas Gahr Store “emphasised that they weren't representing the EU [or NATO] as an organisation. they were calling me in their national capacities, so to speak.” “I know they subsequently faced criticism, but it is not for us to judge whether what they did was right or wrong. Personally, I believe it was right.”

PUTIN IS NOW WARNING THAT THE BALTIC SEA COULD END UP LOOKING LIKE THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ. After calls with Finnish President Stubb and Norwegian PM Gahr Støre, Putin said Russia does not want tensions in the Baltic to spiral into the kind of confrontation now associated with Hormuz. But he added that Moscow will respond to what it considers provocations. Putin also said Russia supports rebuilding full relations with European countries, while noting that both Stubb and Støre made clear they were speaking for their own governments, not on behalf of the EU.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov says Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Store and Finnish President Alexander Stubb conveyed Zelensky’s interest in direct talks with Putin during their 90-minute telephone conversation with the Russian president today. “If Zelensky genuinely wants to hold direct negotiations, he should come to Moscow, where all the necessary arrangements would be made for him, including guarantees concerning his security,” Ushakov said. He added that a Putin-Zelensky meeting would make the most sense once negotiators had prepared documents for a long-term settlement, which the two leaders could then sign. Ushakov also criticised the negative reaction to the call in some European countries. “What's surprising is that this conversation has provoked a critical reaction in several European countries. In my view, that is highly symptomatic and revealing.” He said the discussion had focused primarily on plans to resume trilateral negotiations between Russia, Ukraine and the US in Abu Dhabi.
