Conflict over Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal escalates in Warsaw: judge suspends its leadership and president cuts short Africa trip A de facto power struggle has erupted within one of Poland’s most important state institutions in Warsaw today. For now, the outcome of this confrontation remains uncertain. Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska called the police to the grounds of the Constitutional Tribunal, citing a potential threat to the safety of judges and staff. Police did not enter the building, but a significant number of officers have been deployed in the surrounding area.
Korwin-Piotrowska suspended Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski and his deputy, Bartłomiej Sochański, for one month, temporarily taking charge of the institution herself. Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party, called the developments a “coup” and urged Polish President Karol Nawrocki to intervene. Nawrocki has cut short his visit to Senegal and is returning to Poland. The conflict stems from a deep division over the composition of the court. Donald Tusk’s government refuses to recognise the Tribunal’s rulings because of judges appointed under the previous PiS government. Meanwhile, Nawrocki and Święczkowski refuse to recognise judges elected by the Sejm in 2026. Korwin-Piotrowska is among them: the president refused to accept her oath of office, while Święczkowski had previously prevented her from participating in court proceedings. Tusk a livré.

POLAND: POLICE BUILD-UP AND PALACE TALKS AS THE TRIBUNAL STANDOFF DEEPENS Russian military channels describe events in Warsaw as a coup and report police being brought in from across Poland to the Constitutional Tribunal. President Nawrocki is back in the capital and holding talks with the heads of the Constitutional Tribunal and the Supreme Court. Reinforcements on Aleja Szucha A Russian military Telegram channel reports police units being sent to Warsaw from several regions, including Katowice, about three hundred kilometres from the capital. Polish right-leaning outlets report more reinforcements arriving to join riot units in helmets, shields and body armour in front of the building. Police have not said where the extra units come from. They say they are securing the area on a judge's request, are not inside the tribunal building, and are respecting the court's independence.
LEAKED: Polish police ordered riot units nationwide onto full combat readiness, one day before the Tribunal takeover? A document allegedly signed by Deputy Chief of Polish Police Tomasz Michułka has been published by the PiS-aligned outlet wPolsce24 and shared by its journalist Samuel Pereira. Confederation leader Sławomir Mentzen has also posted it. The letter, marked "VERY URGENT" and dated October 29, allegedly orders all regional police commanders and Warsaw's police chief to keep riot units ready for immediate deployment from November 2 to 8, citing "the operational situation in the country." According to the document, the platoons are to be equipped with: Handguns and submachine guns Backpack pepper spray launchers Shotguns with non-penetrating rounds Kevlar helmets and bulletproof vests Thermal and night vision gear, body cameras "Zapora" barrier sets and the maximum number of riot vans If genuine, the order was issued the day before Tusk's camp moved on the Constitutional Tribunal. Mentzen: "What operational situation is this about? What were you preparing for? Were the police getting ready for this coup since yesterday?" Polish police have not commented, and the document's authenticity has not been independently confirmed.

Was hier geschieht, ist kein gewöhnlicher innerpolnischer Machtkampf.

Polish patriots take to the streets of Warsaw to defend their country from the EU and Donald Tusk! Tusk has seized the Constitutional Tribunal in Warsaw, carrying out a blatant coup d'état! President Karol Nawrocki has just landed in Warsaw to stop the chaos! https://t.co/cZ7jkV7nzZ

Poljska razprava torej ni zgolj notranjepolitična: dotika se same narave EU.
EU and its vassals in Poland have spent years scaring Poles with claims that Russia is going to invade their country! Just look at what's happening. This is a blatant coup backed by the EU and Ursula von der Leyen. In reality, it's an occupation of Poland by Brussels! https://t.co/haXD5d7Jfz

The mobilization of security forces has begun in Poland – what is known about the attempted coup in Poland at this moment: — The conflict has been ongoing since 2023 due to judicial reforms. Prime Minister Tusk is trying to change the judicial system, but President Nawrocki is opposed; — This spring, the conflict flared up again: Parliament elected six judges, but Nawrocki approved only two, preventing supporters of Tusk from taking office; — Today, Tusk, along with the police, blocked the building of the Constitutional Tribunal and announced the suspension of the powers of Chairman Bogdan Święczkowski and Vice-Chairman Bartłomiej Sochański; — "There is no other way. After many years of lawlessness, this is a difficult, sometimes painful process that requires decisive action," Tusk stated; — It is reported that security forces from across the country are being mobilized in Poland. Protesters are beginning to be arrested; — President Karol Nawrocki cut short his foreign trip and returned to Warsaw. He is currently heading to a meeting with the President of the Constitutional Tribunal. Currently, Prime Minister Tusk is planning to remove the President of Poland from power, according to local media.

Protestniki pred ustavnim sodiščem so večkrat poskušali prebiti policijski kordon in ograjo.
CHAOS IN POLAND: Court chief cuts through gate chains as president rushes back to Warsaw! In extraordinary scenes outside Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal, its disputed chief, Bogdan Święczkowski, attempted to enter the building with opposition lawmakers. A locksmith cut through the gate’s metal fastening, but police still blocked access to the building. Meanwhile, President Karol Nawrocki has landed in Warsaw after turning his plane around mid-flight to Senegal as the constitutional crisis escalates. Opposition leaders accuse PM Donald Tusk’s government of attempting a “coup.” The government says it is restoring the rule of law. Poland’s two political camps are now openly clashing over control of one of the country’s highest courts.

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED IN WARSAW IN THE LAST FEW HOURS — IN ORDER: → Riot police in helmets and shields move onto the grounds of Poland's Constitutional Tribunal, the court that checks laws against the Constitution → The court's website says its president and vice-president are suspended for one month — not by parliament, by one judge President Nawrocki refused to swear in, who now takes over → Nawrocki, over Spain on his way to Senegal, turns his plane AROUND and heads back to Warsaw → The court's own X account answers — the website was unlawfully taken over, that judge "is not a judge" and everyone involved is committing a COUP → The justice minister asks to lift both men's immunity — and sends 50 volumes of case files to that same judge Nawrocki's reason, in his own words: "At such a moment, the President must be in Poland." Not a scheduled return. Not a technical stop. Nawrocki heard what was happening at one court — and the whole Senegal trip waited. That's the sequence. And the list of people in that fight tells you everything about what this night is actually about: → A suspended vice-president shut outside a gate locked from inside, saying "a coup is happening" → An opposition that says police stormed the building and closed every entrance on Prime Minister Tusk's orders — "from today Poland becomes a police state" → A prime minister who calls it restoring the rule of law: "There is no other way" Police answer: no officer is inside the building, only on the outer grounds. They say that same judge warned of "threats" to judges and staff, objects were thrown at officers and 3 people were detained for jumping the fence. The fight underneath: parliament elected new judges, Nawrocki refused to swear in some of them and the court's president kept them off the bench. The government says it is securing the site during that fight. Its justice minister: "the state must protect the judges." This isn't just a court dispute. It's a constitutional crisis on wings — and it turned a presidential plane around over Spain because Nawrocki wasn't done fighting. One court. Two people claiming to run it. One month on the suspension order. Tag the friend who swears a court fight like this could never happen inside the EU.
